چکیده

This paper considers three-dimensional (3-D) scene analysis and explores the role of models for this task. Both object and task models are included and the issues of model design and the mapping from image to model are raised. The imaging process produces a two-dimensional (2-D) image of a real-worlcl scene, while in the modelling process, a model of the real-world objects and tasks is built. The 2-D image is then analyzed using image processing and computer vision tools, in the light of the model built.

Two-Dimensional Boundary-Conforming Orthogonal Grids for External and Internal Flows Using Schwarz-Christoffel Transformation

In this paper, a Schwarz-Christoffel method for generating two-dimensional grids for a variety of complex internal and external flow configurations based on the numerical integration procedure of the Schwarz-Christoffel transformation has been developed by using Mathematica, which is a general purpose symbolic-numerical-graphical mathematics software. This method is highly accurate (fifth order...

Description and Recognition of Curved Objects

Analysis of scenes of three-dimensional objects has, in the past, been largely limited to the world of pol~hedra. Techniques for generating structured, symbolic descriptions of complex curved objects by segmentino them into simpler sub..parts are presented here. The complexity of objects used is that of toy animals and hand tools. Recognition is oerformed by matcnsino these descriptions with st...

Imagery for Open-World Spatial Problems

In her paper ([4]), Janice Glasgow adresses many important advantages that imagery models can offer over sentential models such as predicate logic. In this response, we point out another important advantage of imagery with respect to the formulation of models. Consider the problem of reasoning about placing two-dimensional polygonal “blocks” in a space, illustrated in Figure 1. For purposes suc...

Feature Extraction from Vrml Models for View-based Object Recognition

View-based object recognition offers approaches to recognize three-dimensional objects from arbitrary two-dimensional views. In this paper we suggest different simple feature extraction methods based on three-dimensional object models. These are suited for both generating symbolic object descriptions and comparison with shape features extracted from images. We present a concept for improving vi...
